More fake Criterion awesomeness. I’m actually a fan of Very Bad Things.

Fantastic forthcoming single from Quantic and Alice Russell with a beautiful Rotary Connection vibe.

There is nothing jazz about this post unless you subscribe to a much freer idea of it. An excellent mix to shake your booty and nod your head to from Jamie XX and Caribou back to back at Radiohead’s remix album launch party at LDN’s Boiler Room. Check it out here.

Starting off this week's show with a bunch of records I picked up while in Copenhagen earlier this week. I found a pretty healthy record store scene over there. I was a little surprised to be honest. Check out Street Sounds if you are over there ever. It's pretty much all jazz all the way except for one Seu Jorge track at the end. I have a couple of tracks with the unmistakable voice of Andy Bey, one with Horace Silver and one with his sisters. Ahmad Jamal does a beautiful live version of 'Round Midnight recorded at the Montreal Jazz Festival in '85. A track from Sun Ra plus a japanese cover of a Sun Ra track from Yann Tomita. I've also dropped right at the end a quite nutty Soil & Pimp Sessions track from their new record. You're probably used to crazy jazz from those guys but this is goes another level, hopefully I won't scare away too many of you :) Enjoy and it's going to be all jazz all the time until mid December when I wrap up the year with the usual Rewind selection.

PJL Intro

This week started with the great latin band Ocho and then it just went all Brazil for 30 mins, it just seemed to make sense. From Bossa Nova, to Brazilian jazz flavors and funk all the way to french bossa, it's all there. After the quick Brazil detour it is back to business as usual. I got sent a great rework by Italy's Suonho who takes an inspired pass at Donny Hathaway's classic The Ghetto, check Suonho out on SoundCloud, lots of great music. There's also a new track from Suen Kuti, Benny Sings, and a great new project from AM & Shawn Lee. I wrap things up this week with another track sent to me via SoundCloud from LA's Hang Glider, look for his very promising EP on iTunes and on vinyl. Enjoy and see you next week. Interesting freestyle episode this week. Somehow went from Amy Winehouse to classic 90s Acid Jazz hiphop before going via Herb Alpert's jazz-funk classic to NYC's Balihu label and a track from Daniel Wang. There's usual spiritual jazz interlude before getting a little darker. I hope you like the great Arcade Fire cover from Mr. Little Jean and also the Caribu remix of Radiohead, one of a bunch of electronic/dupstep takes of their last album. Enjoy and I'll be around next week with another selection of music.

It's. Been. A. Long. Time.
It's been over six weeks since the last podcast and that's the longest I've gone without dropping a mix. There's been work, there's been a holiday and there's been another edition of Get Closer in LA. But there hasn't been a new mix until now! Hopefully you all still remember what PJL is all about. Well in the meantime here are a bunch of tunes that I've gotten to including new music from Nicola Conte, Dego, Fatima with Floating Points, Owiny Sigoma Band as well as a great compilation from MoWest Records. It's been a hectic week so I had to knock this out on the plane back home today. While it's all done on the laptop mid-flight it's still quality from start to finish. I actually find these sessions kinda more interesting cause I'm digging through the music on the laptop which sometimes gets lost in the shuffle. In fact there were a bunch of track I've been meaning to play for weeks that I just forgot about! Starting off moody with B-Ju's version of the classic UNCLKE tune and then onto Jamie Woon. A tribute to Guru from The Beast and some jazzy drum 'n bass action from Audioholic. I've got some jazz from Herbie Hancock from the album The Prisoner that I checked out for the first time recently, and then old music from Matthew Halsall and Sadao Watanabe. There's much more so enjoy and see you next week.

Jazz and Jazz-Funk dominate this week. I've dropped another great track from the RISE album and there's a new record store day release from Radiohead that wraps up the show, don't sleep on that. There's also a new Mark de Clive-Lowe EP out "Leaving this planet" and I played the first track from that. If you are in LA in mid May be sure to check out what maybe my new monthly night on May 14th at The Saint in Hollywood. I'll have more info on the main site. It's 100% proper house sounds all night long along side DJ Mart Vader. Enjoy and until next week.

I'm starting out with some more mellow stuff from with a little reggae vibes then some soul and usual jazz action. Enjoy and tune in next week for more sounds from around the globe.

I actually had a different mix ready to go out for this week but I kinda had a big binge on jazz this week courtesy of iTunes shuffle and felt like I needed to share a 99% jazz vibe sessions. It's been a while. Enjoy spiritual jazz, vocal jazz, pop jazz, hiphop jazz and some hippie jazz too! Three newish tracks I dropped you need to do some work to find out more about. First one is from new vocalist (at least to me) Michelle Shaprow with some fun loving vibes, then new Stones Throw Records band The Stepkids who will be big and finally a new youtub mashup track from Kutiman who grabs sound & video samples from youtube and recreates a brand new song of out the elements, who need to check the original youtube clip. Essential. Enjoy and until next week.
